    This specimen is from the Aurora matrix. To this complete amateur it looks like it might be an oyster shell from near the hinge. However, I have seen other fossils that seem to indicate it could be from a bony fish. I’d appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

    It looks like oyster shell to me…

    Mostly due to the layered appearance of the (possibly broken) edge.

    It’s still a fossil, and therefore still cool though!

    I agree that it is some kind of clam. Not sure if I can confirm it’s an oyster, but that certainly looks like a bivalve hinge to me.
