    Today in the Little Belt mountains I came across this slab of rock with these tube fossils. At first ti thought they were Criniod stems. The longest one is about 6 cm and as thick as my little finger. The stone is a shale like limestone.  The stone is somewhat soft.  It is mission canyon formation or lodgepole part of Madison limestone group.  Mississippian period.

    Looks like they may be cephalopods, more specifically they appear to be orthoceratoids.
