4 years, 1 month ago4 years, 1 month agoCollected yesterday from Kevin member of Marias Formation, near Loma Montana. I have been exploring a strata of sandy shale that is about 10 to 12 CM and is about 6 feet from the top of the Kevin rocks. Above the Kevin shale is glacial till. The explored strata rest on about 8 feet of dark grey bentonite shale. The lower bed of shale is nearly…[Read more]

Hi @chris-Watson, would you like to improve the quality of this specimen for the Emuseum? I can walk you through the steps. The image that you posted resembles a crinoid columnal. Do you have any pictures from other angles or with a scale bar that you could add?
-
Ian, thank you for commenting! Yes. I have several examples of this I picked up yesterday. I’ll be happy to increase the quality of the images. I’ll take some more images of different angles and with a ruler in place to show scale. I’ll update today. Let me know what to do for the e-museum.

Hi, @nirmal-rajah! If you want to add this specimen to our eMuseum, adding multiple photographs of it on a plain background from multiple angles would be very helpful! Also, don’t forget scale!
-
Definitely, I’ll post it tomorrow.

Hi, @nirmal-rajah – We can include some classification – Kingdom Animalia > Phylum Mollusca > Class Gastropoda . This will help with our new filtering system which will use classification to sort the fossils in our database!

5 years ago5 years agoHere is an oyster found by White Point Garden in Charleston, SC. Can anyone confirm if this is a fossil? I’ve seen people use modern shells in cement and this was found by a sidewalk. I know the city of Charleston is old too so I don’t know if this is old pavement with modern shells or an actual fossil in situ. #fossil
