Hello @lori-schultz, nice find! It appears to be a horn coral, more scientifically known as a rugose coral. During the time prior to the dinosaurs, these solitary corals were fairly common though they are now completely extinct.
If you’d like us to add it to the research database you will need to take a few extra steps. First, take photos with a…[Read more]

Definitely not a skull

yea i agree with @bill-heim it is not a skull. the features are too distorted and if it was a skull it would not look so bumpy and also theres no real evidence of a beak or jaw bones or teeth

Hey @matt-kowalczyk, nice find! If you want this to be marked research grade, you’ll need to fill out a few extra fields and take some photos with a scale (preferably a ruler but a coin will do in a pinch). For classification, you can put phylum Brachiopoda. For lithostratigraphy, you can put Michigan Formation. Lastly, you can put Mississippian…[Read more]

Hey Matt, epic find! This is an absolutely gorgeous gastropod, I believe Platyceras. You can put that into the Taxon Wizard and it will fill in higher taxonomy. For lithostratigraphy you can put Michigan Formation and for geochronology you can put Mississipian period (I got that from looking at the location on a geologic map). If you can add those…[Read more]

At first glance, this looks like a brachiopod (lamp-shell)! These were particularly prevalent during the Paleozoic, though survive to modern times.
-
Hey Matt! This is a nice spiriferid brachiopod, so you can add order spiriferida to the taxon wizard. The geochronology is Mississipian and the lithostratigraphy is michigan formation. Thanks for uploading!
