After so many years of searching for what these are I have found images of fossil seed cones, sometimes also classified as aggregate fruit. Some also show insect feeding damage. The seed pods are probably legit but the “branches” have probably been added. I think this specimen was supposed to have been cut in half down the length to make two…[Read more]

this looks like it might be a crinoid calyx
-
Could this perhaps be part of a calyx of a sea lily. Compare with images.

Thanks

I am totally so jealous of your specimens. You seem to be able to get to some great sites. Here in South Africa it is not safe to be off fossilhunting on my own. I hunt my fossils on ebay these days and turn bright green with envy every niw and then..Enjoybyou

But, if someone suggested there were much more to uncover, I would start trying to learn true techniques. What I really still don’t understand is if whole specimens are typically found…[Read more]

This looks like sandstone. There are what looks like fossils visible in the sandstone. The small round shapes could be coral or crinoid stems. Middle picture shows what could be an insect tunnel or root tunnel which has filled in. Intriguing.
