4 years, 8 months ago4 years, 8 months agoHi, @acurrier – another excellent specimen. I have some more info and some questions. From some research it appears the order may be Seguenzioidea.

iDigBio was lacking an ordinal assignment and if I’ve learned anything about Cenozoic gastropods it is that their ordinal…[Read more] -

4 years, 8 months ago4 years, 8 months agoAwesome specimen, @acurrier! I’m marking it as research grade due to the high quality data associated with your fossil. This will ‘freeze’ the data but it more information can be added by ‘unfreezing’ it on the back end. This is because we will be sending data from the myFOSSIL eMuseum to iDigBio so that when someone searches for this species,…[Read more]

I’m thinking the Northwest Paleontological Association might be the closest club. @paul-kester, meet Wendell Ricketts, a fossil hound and the publisher of the revived Fossil News magazine; he previously lived in Florida and now lives in Seattle!

There was actually a book published on living fossils, with a chapter dedicated to Lepisosteida, which is the family to which gars belong to.
