6 years, 9 months ago6 years, 9 months agoI think you may be right that it’s Deltodus, but it’s hard to say without something for scale to determine how big the fossil is. I don’t know my Paleozoic sharks very well though. @adam-armstrong are you familiar with Deltodus?

7 years, 4 months ago7 years, 4 months agoHey Adam, @adam-armstrong,
hmmm still very hard to determine what it is, I need better pictures and more pics from the potential preopercular, maybe Mark Mehle can help us @markmehle?

The coelacanth Spermatodus pustulosis Cope is found there as well. With this ornamentation may be a possibility but I couldn’t find a good image on line. Will look it up in Forey’s History of Coelacanth Fishes tonight if I get a chance.

7 years, 4 months ago7 years, 4 months agoDear Adam, it is absolutely possible that we see a preopercule but for better ID I would need some more pics from different perspectives. Can you shoot and upload some ?
Best

It’s approximately 1cm by 1cm.
This looks a little odd for Deltodus. Generally they are flat with longitudinal ridges in the enamel pattern
