20 hours, 8 minutes ago20 hours, 8 minutes agoDoes anyone know what kind of bullet this is?
It’s 12mm and it was found at low tide on the beach.-
This could help: https://metaldetectingforum.com/showthread.php?t=174509
-
There’s a picture with a bunch of different bullets if you scroll down a bit.
-
I managed to find that it’s a British 2 ringed bullet from the 1860s during the American civil war
-
I thought it was a fossil at first :/
-
😂😂😂
-
Weird fossil
-
😂
-
ah, yes. Trilobita Bulletus, a great wartime general of the Arthropod division of the southern confederate states.
-
😂
-
We fought for the right to roll in a ball, but were defeated at the battle of arthropodusburg
-
@a-trilobite what nationality are you?
-
U.S.A (united states of arthropods)
-
U.K.
-
Or England
-
How’d you find an American civil war bullet then?
-
Dunno
-
I did read up they were being imported overseas
-
Well the British did give war materials to the Confederates, so I guess you found one of the bullets they were shipping?
-
Southampton is near where I live and it’s a big place for trade over here on importing and exporting. The titanic was built there and would have sailed out of the Solent up north.
-
Sorry no, it did come and leave Southampton
-
It set sail from there
-
And then was inevitably lost to the north Atlantic
-
Is is possible for a shipwreck to become fossilized? eventually there will things like fossilized buildings, cars, houses, and random items like bottles and staplers. It’s an interesting thought.
-
Possibly as trace fossils
-
Although they are built out of materials
-
The Mary Rose (Henry VIII’s vessel built to battle the french) was sunk by an intake of water in the solent and lay there for about 400 years. Until in the 90s what was left was pulled out the water and put in a museum in gun wharf at the historic dockyard
-
😂👍😂
-
Lol I never thought I’d get a history lesson on myFossil. I’m not complaining though.

22 hours, 21 minutes ago22 hours, 21 minutes agoThis is now my biggest sand tiger shark tooth/striolatma macrota (don’t think I spelt that right) I’ve ever found at Lee on Solent and it measures nearly 2 inches!
Just putting this up to double check that the species is correct and to show the sizes of the teeth you can find at Lee On Solent in Hampshire.-
It will be 46 million years old putting it in the time period of the middle Eocene
-
Striatolamia macrota. I have seen one pushing 3 inches and I have one that is over 2. So yes.

These actually look like snail shells, still nice finds
-
They are very thin, because of this they are ammonites
-
they’re snails, not ammonites. they have a different coiling pattern and lack inner chamber divisions.
-
still quite cool finds
-
Bruh
-
I know what I mean
-
I give them to a specialist to test
-
and snails have a more fat shwll
-
shell
-
I’m going to have to agree with the snail ID on this one. These remind me of Southern Flatcoil snail shells, which iNaturalist tells me can be found in Greece. Not sure if they specifically are that species, but they do seem to be snails.
-
Yes! I found them in Greece, because Im greek
-
they are baby ammonites
-
because of this they don’t look like so much with another
-
I think they are snails
-
Snail shells spiral outwards, ammonites are flat
-
Also if the inside is hollow (not filled with solid Rock) it’s modern and not a fossil
-
no
-
I find them near to dirt
-
and this one is full
-
@a-trilobite, see one more pic
-
it is 0,2 flat
-
and if they are snails, they are fossils, because I found them near to jurassic rocks
