It certainly could be, though given the fragmentary nature I cannot confirm it is not chert!

I got it from a petrified tree log and it broke off like tree bark and it contains wood and has a wooden texture. Also chert is made out of quartz which has a hardness of 7 which means if I was able to break it off means ist definitely not chert. Also it has the same colouration and texture as petrified wood.
