3 years, 6 months ago3 years, 6 months agoVertèbre!! Found another one. Super long and I will have to go back to keep digging later. This is all I could find in a short amount of time. What’s the trick to not breaking into pieces? #fossil
-
I think this is a partial snail fossil rather than vertebrae. If you could provide more photos with a scale bar, we can probably narrow down what type of snail.
-
To stabilize fragile shell specimens, I like to consolidate them with repeated applications of 5% Paraloid/Acryloid B72 solution prior to extraction. I also try to extract them with a healthy amount of surrounding matrix to ensure stability and that any obscured pieces of the specimen remain. The matrix can then be removed later on at home or in…[Read more]

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agoBottom fossil – could it be la tooth?
Blanco tx
-
Greetings @anna-standley ! The top two almost look like coprolites, but that’s not guaranteed. Your ‘tooth’ I believe is just a well worn rock.
-
The Glen Rose Limestone and Edwards Limestone Formations make up the largest geological units around Blanco, so looking up any literature on them may help with find productive locales and the kinds if fossils you should be looking for. Both formations were lagoonal so marine fossils will likely be the most prevalent.
-
Very interesting. I have some research to do

Glad to help! @anna-standley This should provide some resources to start with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glen_Rose_Formation#Gallery_of_typical_Glen_Rose_fossils

It does seem oddly circular and smooth, but I’m not sure what that would be used for as a tool
Something maybe to hold lite stuff done they could hook it in the ground or a thing that would hold down a basketball hoop idk
Maybe a base for torches
