1 week, 1 day ago1 week, 1 day ago@cameron-harper I concur with Bill, so Carcharhiniform is probably our best bet for this guy

2 weeks, 1 day ago2 weeks, 1 day ago@cameron-harper Again, I have trouble with these guys but I would personally call it a Striatolamia lower anterior. @bill-heim what do you think?

2 weeks, 1 day ago2 weeks, 1 day ago@cameron-harper I agree this is likely an alopiid but wouldn’t be so sure on the species, unfortunately this is a fairly long lived group and both those beaches are pretty mixed-up stratigraphy-wise so I don’t think it would solve your locality problem, sorry!!

2 weeks, 2 days ago2 weeks, 2 days ago@cameron-harper I don’t see this being Carcharocles of any variety or Megachasma, I think its a carcharhiniform but given it’s state I’m hesitant to definitively go further

2 weeks, 2 days ago2 weeks, 2 days ago@cameron-harper I believe this to be a worn anterior upper Carcharhinus, don’t think there’s any pathologies.

2 weeks, 2 days ago2 weeks, 2 days ago@cameron-harper I defer to Bill on these guys, doing my best to key out your Purse teeth but the extent to which they are identifable when they get worn is questionable (It’s even hard to tell odontaspidid from carchariid from mitsukirinid!). I would say that Anomotodon would be my best guess for this particular tooth

3 weeks, 1 day ago3 weeks, 1 day ago@cameron-harper some sort of carcharhiniform but in its worn state I hesitate to say much more. The little conule on the distal side makes me want to say it is a Rhizoprionodon but its serrations are a little prominent, so I can’t be sure.

3 months, 3 weeks ago3 months, 3 weeks ago@cameron-harper Holden Beach is much more likely for this tooth! By the way, myFOSSIL automatically generates labels for you so that location will always be attached, you can go to your “Specimens” page on your profile for that.

3 months, 3 weeks ago3 months, 3 weeks ago@cameron-harper do we have more specific location information? In order for a post to be research grade, a post must have clear pictures with a scale from different angles (you’ve got that), Classification (I’ve helped with), location as specific as possible (preferably to nearest town), geochronology, and lithostratigraphy (which I can often help…[Read more]

4 months ago4 months ago@cameron-harper are you sure this is from Purse? It looks a bit like a lemon shark, which I have found there dropped by people on occasion but would be more common on the Chesapeake bay.
