6 years, 9 months ago6 years, 9 months agoI have posted a Mississippian tooth- Deltodus, I think- and would appreciate your expertise about identifying it. This one is from my yard in north central Alabama and from what I think is Ste. Genevieve Limestone.

I was hoping @vperez might be able to help you. Perhaps @bill-heim or @william-howat could assist? The other option to get ID help would be to post your pictures in the ‘What Is It’ forum at http://www.myfossil.org/forums/forum/3-what-is-it/

Unfortunately, that’s outside of my knowledge base at the moment, but thank you for thinking of me!

6 years, 9 months ago6 years, 9 months agoA Mississippian shark tooth for my collection!! I believe it is Deltodus species.

Nice find, @cassondra-link! I noticed you said you thought it might be Deltodus; perhaps @vperez could join the conversation!
-
I think you may be right that it’s Deltodus, but it’s hard to say without something for scale to determine how big the fossil is. I don’t know my Paleozoic sharks very well though. @adam-armstrong are you familiar with Deltodus?
-
It’s approximately 1cm by 1cm.
-
This looks a little odd for Deltodus. Generally they are flat with longitudinal ridges in the enamel pattern

Hi Cassondra, I’m the web developer for myFOSSIL. I’m resolving a bug that caused attached images posted to groups to not appear in the groups activity feed. If these images were meant to be posted in a group please let me know and I can fix it.
