I think is may be related to this story but collected in an area about 20 minutes away https://www.syracuse.com/news/2021/11/discovered-on-a-cny-hilltop-remarkable-evidence-of-a-time-this-place-was-a-tropical-sea.html

Rugose coral (horn coral)
-
@sonson-parrisha these are some very nice horn corals (AKA Rugose Corals) which are an extinct type of solitary coral from before the dinosaurs. You can use the app Rockd to find the lithostratigraphy where you found this (Possibly Ludlowville formation?).

That flattened edge looks more like a pig or peccary tusk. The top and bottom tusk rub and leave it flattened. I have a picture of one posted on here somewhere
-
I thought it was maybe a peccary also but I found it at the beach so it kind of threw me off..
-
When I found mine I thought it was a claw. Now after finding more boar pigs I can now tell the west pattern

Where was this found?
-
Ladonia Fossil Park
-
That area has Cretaceous and Pleistocene deposits, you can find fossils of plesiosaurs, mosasaurs, and more. I can’t say for sure what that jaw belongs to, but it’s an awesome find worth finding more about. You could compare it to other fossils found in the area or ask a local expert.
-
Thanks! I’m so happy with it and will try to do a bit of preparation with it and then put it in a glass case with a plaque when I figure out what it is
-
It already looks great, I wouldn’t risk trying to prepare it unless you’re sure it won’t damage it
-
The teeth signal Xiphactinus. But that’s only comparing existing fossils to this one
-
I will look into it and see what images I can find to compare. If it helps this is only about 2.5 inches long so it will need to be a small fish I think
-
Nice fish! I will contact some experts to see if an ID is possible.
-
Thanks! I’ll also try to find a paleontologist near me

@tom-shern these are trace fossils, filled in burrows from ancient marine invertebrates! It takes seeing these up close and being an expert to known them apart, but this might be Arthrophycus
-
Thank you very much! Arthrophycus Alleghaniensis it is.
