8 months, 3 weeks ago8 months, 3 weeks agoHi, @mackenzie-ross-2 and @Chad-Bruce! I think photos of other sides of the fossil would be useful here, but I do see how this could be a trilobite pygidum (butt).

8 months, 3 weeks ago8 months, 3 weeks agoHi there, @chad-bruce do you have a more specific location of where this was found? I believe that the age can (hesitantly) be identified as Ordovician. If you could also fill in the dimensions box that helps make it a research-grade specimen! @samantha-ocon may be able to help identify your possible trilobite!

10 months, 2 weeks ago10 months, 2 weeks agoThanks for tagging me in @sadie-mills. @chad-bruce – this looks like several different species of brachiopod shells that have been worn down. The Fossil Guy has a good page on Devonian brachs of NY (similar species to MI): https://www.fossilguy.com/sites/18mile/18_col.htm you should see some similar shapes!

10 months, 3 weeks ago10 months, 3 weeks ago@chad-bruce another awesome find! I see that you’ve already got some of the information filled out! @david-clark might be able to help you narrow it down further. In the meanwhile, to make this research grade, you can upload photos of it against a neutral background with a scale for reference!

10 months, 3 weeks ago10 months, 3 weeks agoHi there @chad-bruce, from these pictures, this looks like it might be a chip in the rock! If you could upload these with the specimen against a neutral background and with a scale for reference, we might be able to ID it!

11 months, 3 weeks ago11 months, 3 weeks agoAwesome find, @chad-bruce! I agree with @matthew-gramling, I see some crinoid stems and I think the jagged pieces may be strange sections of brachiopods – there is a really diverse Middle Devonian fauna in Michigan!
