11 months, 2 weeks ago11 months, 2 weeks agoVery nice @charlie-smith! Could you add a picture with the ruler and the whole trilobite and then tag me so I can mark this research grade?

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months ago@charlie-smith Yep, M. occidentalis. I forgot to mention the authority last time. It is (J.S. Newberry) Chaney, 1951. But yes, Miki is the authority on the genus.

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months ago@charlie-smith I think because there are two different leaves (same species but on different sides of the slab) it would be best to treat them as two specimens.

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months ago@mackenzie-ross-2 Looks like @charlie-smith has the taxonomy correct already. I can say that the species is M. occidentalis since M. foxii has longer leaflets.

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agoThanks @charlie-smith! Looking at how we record Pleistocene specimens from the Peace at the Florida Museum informed my suggestion here. I think that’s the best way to do it for now.

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agoGiven the number of equid species in the Peace, and how worn this specimen is, I think we just need to say Equidae here @charlie-smith

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agoHi @charlie-smith. This is almost certainly from the unnamed Pleistocene deposits along the Peace and not the older Peace River Fm. In this case, and in the case of other specimens that are definitively Pleistocene from the Peace, you can delete the lithostratigraphy and note that it was from the unnamed Pleistocene gravels of the Peace River. Thanks

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months ago@charlie-smith my best guess for this tooth is Palaeolama mirifica. If you do decide to change the classification, maybe add a question mark next to the ID.

3 years, 8 months ago3 years, 8 months agoHi @charlie-smith, this tooth is not from Equus. The elliptical, isolated protocone indicates it is a hipparionine, but I haven’t landed on which yet. I think it’s probably Cormohipparion, but I’ll continue doing some research and get back to you.
