4 years, 6 months ago4 years, 6 months agoG’day mate! Greetings from Australia! Today we went hunting for some fossil plants. Came across a treasure trove of 200-250 MA horsetails, ferns, and club moss cones. #fossil #collectionsite

4 years, 7 months ago4 years, 7 months agoThe distal, proximal, and lateral views make me think that it’s a distal phalange. As i’ve been looking at Gomphothere phalanges the past few weeks, and by the size of it, it may be elephant. I’ll compare it to some of the text we have in the office and check out the collections. This looks pretty cool! Great job Lee!

4 years, 8 months ago4 years, 8 months agoI had the chance to mentor a rising senior for the past few months. Her career interests are in dentistry, but she took a chance with Paleo this summer and LOVED it! She spent her time picking microfossils from Montbrook, prepping a gomohothere tibia from Montbrook, measuring modern and fossil porcupine vertebrae for an ongoing study, as well as…[Read more]

4 years, 9 months ago4 years, 9 months agoThe KU Natural History Museum took our Pop-Up Paleo mobile museum across western Kansas last week, making stops in the towns of Salina, Great Bend, and Garden City. Our goal was to engage underserved audiences outside of our eastern KS base. Despite the intense heat (one of the student employees nearly passed out from heat exhaustion in S…[Read more]

4 years, 9 months ago4 years, 9 months agoI personally thought that NAPC 2019 was a fantastic conference. I was so busy having fun and learning new things that I almost forgot that my 8-year wedding anniversary fell right in the middle of the conference on June 25th – haha! The conference accommodations weren’t swanky, but it was kind of fun to stay in a college dorm once again… and…[Read more]

4 years, 9 months ago4 years, 9 months agoWhile attending the North American Paleontological Convention (June 22-27, 2019) in Riverside, CA, I snuck off for a day at the La Brea Tar Pits & Museum. It was awesome to take my time going through the museum and exploring all over the site itself (instead of being rushed through on a quick tour). I was able to ask a bunch of geeky taphonomy…[Read more]
