That’s a woolly mammoth tooth
Nice find
Where’s you find it?
I actually pick this up from a private dealer like a few other specimens in my gallery. just seeking thoughts and opinions and showing ppl beautiful artifacts of the ancient world
it isn’t mammoth could you put scale on so I can see size. looks too flat to be mammoth. maybe stromalite
I’m sort of new to this if you can’t tell, can you inform or explain what kind of scale to use so I can be more accurate and give better details?
Just a tape measure for scale, this site records in cm if that helps
You said “70 million years old” for a wooly mammoth tooth, which would mean that he was hanging around with dinosaurs in the Cretaceous. Either the date or the identification is off.
A woolly mammoth tooth can end up in another fossil layer environment
It happened on the isle of wight
I take back it might not be 100% woolly mammoth
It could be a different species closely related to elephants
Or something else
It does have ridges
Looks mammoth to me it does look like it may have been smoothed off on the dermal ridges. Maybe for show, or it may just be a very worn out tooth.
This specimen too was polished. I was not responsible for making this discovery. However i felt it was worthy of posting to generate thoughts, opinions, or answeres for myself to learn more information . I appreciate all the feedback
that is a proboscidean tooth. no doubt. but not mammoth, some other species. maybe a mastodon?
actually I think your right now that I remember it was mastodon
its a proboscidean tooth 🙂 maybe a mastodon
Yep definitely mammoth. Mastodon teeth have more pointed cusp not undulating like mammoth. Of course I grew up 5 miles from where the Boaz Mastodon was found and then worked in the building it is now housed in.
