4 years, 10 months ago4 years, 10 months agoAnybody know what this is? It also had little bumpy things opposite the other side of the fossil as well but they flaked off. Is it piece of a fossilized Crab? “Found in Black Creek FL.” #fossil

4 years, 10 months ago4 years, 10 months agoAwesome day at the creek today! Can anyone help me ID this tooth? I don’t think it’s a horse… “Found in Black Creek FL.” #fossil
-
Why don’t you think it’s a horse? Maybe @jeanette-pirlo or @smoran could chime in with their mammal knowledge.
-
thanks @jennifer-bauer. it looks wider and shorter than a horse tooth, it doesnt look broken either and it has 4 root holes if that helps any
-
This is a horse tooth for sure. We have found some fairly large teeth in the creeks as well, but def a horse tooth.
-
Ok, thanks a bunch 😊 @jeanette-pirlo

4 years, 10 months ago4 years, 10 months agoI’m not 100% positive but I’m pretty sure this is a segment of a rib bone from an elephant either mastadon or mammoth, I found Black Creek FL. #fossil

It’s hard to tell in this picture. Could you upload a couple more that are further zoomed out and maybe of the flip side of this?

sure thing. @jeanette-pirlo

4 years, 10 months ago4 years, 10 months agoThis is an agatized coral arrowhead I found in Black Creek FL. The tip is broke off but by the age of the break it appears that it was broke and discarded by the owner/maker which to me is a whole piece. One of my favorite finds.
-
@daniel-murrhee, @cferrara I thought there were some overbearing rules about artifact collecting in Florida. As in you better not do it. Yes – No? Cool find though. I’d keep it.
-
Yeah it’s illegal but what am I supposed to do throw it back in the creek, I don’t think so. 😊 @jkallmeyer
-
I’m with you. It seems that some regulations have gotten out of hand. Up here you can pick any artifact up you can find except out of graves. It’s like fossils – a fossil not collected is lost forever –
no one benefits. In your case you can always tell them you collected a fossil coral not an artifact 🙂

-
Throwing it back I feel would be the utmost disrepect to our history.

4 years, 10 months ago4 years, 10 months agoLook at the size of this enchinoderm! It’s broken in half but It’s about 5 inches wide, usually I find them dime or half dollar size. Found in Penny Farms FL. sticking out of the dirt road. #fossil

@daniel-murrhee where did you find it? At first glance it looks like a bunch of clams in a rock but it’s hard to tell!
-

-
@daniel-murrhee – I considered tooth too but it looks really odd with those patterns. It could just be really weathered? @jeanette-pirlo is a expert in verts, I see inverts everywhere because my love for them is so strong.
-
Thank you @ jennifer-bauer I think you’re right. 😊
-
I don’t think it’s an elephant tooth, at least not from this angle, but the left swiggle (that’s a technical term right?) looks really interesting. Could you upload another picture of that side?
-
sure😊 @jeannette-pirlo

clump of oysters?

I always come back home hurt but to me It’s well worth it! We didn’t find much of anything yesterday but we still had a great time.😊 “Black Creek” #collection_site
