1 year, 3 months ago1 year, 3 months ago@holly-romanek I concur with @daniel-park . This appears to most likely be a gastropod external mold in a concretion.

1 year, 6 months ago1 year, 6 months agoHello @charles-du and @daniel-park! The vast majority of these specimens are Metasequoia occidentalis (Dawn Redwood). Metasequoia is the state fossil of Oregon. It also looks like you have two other leaves both different angiosperms. One looks like it could be in Betulaceae (birch, hornbeam and alder family). I would recommend submitting each one…[Read more]

1 year, 6 months ago1 year, 6 months ago@daniel-park@chloe-geddes Yep, it’s wood. The problem with wood is that it has to be identified in a lab. We have to take cross sections of the specimen and then look at the cellular structure under the microscope so I can’t put a name on it. The only fun tid-bit I can add is that there were a lot of forest fires during the Cretaceous so it we…[Read more]

1 year, 6 months ago1 year, 6 months agoHello @charles-du@daniel-park@mackenzie-ross-2. I apologize for the late response, I was teaching a very stressful online class last semester and am now catching up on myFOSSIL notifications. This is a very nice leaf! Is this from behind the high school? That site has been quarried pretty well and nice leaves like this are hard to find now a…[Read more]

1 year, 6 months ago1 year, 6 months agoThat’s better, but I don’t know what it could be. Two rows of small circles that are identical in size, but the rows are too long to be a mouth or group of teeth. My only guess would be an odd molar of some kind, although the fossil appears to be curved and may have distorted a few details. Maybe @leonardo-miranda@chloe-geddes or @daniel-park could help

1 year, 7 months ago1 year, 7 months ago@daniel-park no, spriggina was soft bodied, and it’s fossils were always faint imprints (mold) in what was soft mud. This is a raised 3d fossil (cast) and is hard-bodied. Also the pattern matches conulariids rather than a spriggina.

1 year, 8 months ago1 year, 8 months agoBased on color/wear patterns I’d say anywhere from a 500-4000 years old, mabey @daniel-park or @leonardo-miranda would have an idea too.
