About

I am an invertebrate paleontologist, now retired from the faculty of the Department of Geology, University of Cincinnati.  My teaching, beginning in 1975, has included courses in invertebrate paleontology, paleoecology, geology and biology of coral reefs, historical geology, and dinosaurs.  My research interests focus on fossil and living crinoids, coral reefs, paleoecology, and taphonomy.  My publications include ecology and distribution of living crinoids from the Caribbean and Indo-Pacific regions, fossil crinoids and edrioasteroids from the Upper Ordovician of the Cincinnati Arch region, the Devonian of New York, the Lower Mississippian Fort Payne Fm from Kentucky and Tennessee, the Cretaceous (Uintacrinus), and the Eocene (Seymour Island, Antarctic).  In my research on living crinoids, I have used SCUBA diving to study shallow water crinoids and have participated in submersible dives to study deep-water stalked crinoids in Jamaica and the Bahamas.  I have been an advisor to the Dry Dredgers since 1975.  My wife Kani and I are members of the organizing committee for GeoFair in Cincinnati, and were contributors to the planning of Trammel Fossil Park in Sharonville, Ohio.  We also both volunteer at the Geier Collections & Research Center of the Cincinnati Museum Center.
