This specimen was found in the shallow area of a Lake in West Central Indiana. It appears to have a solid limestone bottom half and a spongy/coral type top half?? The majority of the fossils are in the top half as far as I can tell without any prep. I’m not sure if the fossils are a type of bryozoan or maybe Crinoid sections? Any help i…[Read more]

That’s really cool! That’s exactly what I looked Like when I first joined this site and was informed by @bill-heim and @a-trilobite that what I thought was a rare fossil find was actually just a rock… and found out they were right 😅

Thanks @patrick-hsieh , I use an air scribe to remove large Sections of the matrix, then use a micro sandblaster and dental hand tools Once I get close to the fossil

Much of it has already been exposed, you may want to start with the air abrasive unit first. An air scribe may damage it at this point with the vibration. Post pictures of it when you’re done, I’d be very interested in seeing your work!

Not a fossil, but a breccia. Breccia is Italian for “rubble” and is basically a group of sedimentary rocks naturally cemented together. As for the hollow center, it’s likely that a large stone or group of stones fell out of the group, creating the space.

Although It does resemble a spear, if that’s limestone/sandstone then it’s probably not a spear head because it would be way to soft and would break apart too easy when used. The fossils look like some pieces of a blown apart Crinoids and/or fragments of bryozoan. Nice find!

Also, I get the “edit” option when I click on my post only if I put in the location (city and state) when I originally create the post. If that makes sense
