7 years ago7 years agoHi, @marie-vahue! You might want to chat with @bheimbrock, as he has an excellent system for organizing and curating his fossil collection. In terms of a citizen science project, I wonder if you might want to get in contact with @dkrisher as he’s working on a database project for the Devonian fossils of Western NY.

Hi @marie-vahue! You should first read the description of my methods in the “Curation of Curation of Personal Collections” topic. Here’s the URL – http://www.myfossil.org/forums/topic/curation-of-personal-collections-2/
Also, Cool! You are collecting Penn Dixie Brachs! If I ever get back there to Penn Dixie in my lifetime, I’m going straight to…[Read more]

Wow Bill! You certainly had a great day at Penn Dixie! I am excited as PD has hired a paleontologist who specializes in Brachiopods. I am sure I will be peppering her with questions!

7 years ago7 years agoAmazing, @samuel-ciurca! I am thrilled to hear this news. @jkallmeyer will be interested to see the rare crinoids! I wonder if anyone else in the Rochester area has been able to collect there — @dkrisher, are you aware of this spot?

7 years, 1 month ago7 years, 1 month agoHey Lisa,
PennDOT blew up most of the marine zone while widening the cut a while back. There are occasionally chunks of marine zone that have fallen that people can search, but chunks of the plant layer are much more common to find.
I was there about a month ago to make sure the site was not blown up…again. I only spent about 15 or so min…[Read more]

7 years, 1 month ago7 years, 1 month ago@egardner, this is excellent, thanks for posting. @jayson-kowinsky, thank you for putting this ID sheet together. I like that there is a QR code on it, too, that’s a great tech aspect.
On the second page, I see the list of the plants and marine fossils that can be found at the site. Are we more likely to find the plants or the marine fossils? Has…[Read more]

I just set one up for DPS. Is the site open enough for me to offer it as an option for my youth group? We have about 55 on the roster, but there are lots of siblings. If so, I can create an educational outreach group for them as well.
-
Great! Thanks for creating a DPS group, Tynessa! I believe the site is open enough for k-12 participants. Just have them go to the landing page and fill out the registration form with a parent. Then a login will be created and sent to the registrant email address. Thanks!

Hey Dan, I was wondering if you guys from RASNY are in contact with the Cincinnati Dry Dredgers since you share the geological background with them. Maybe it is a good thing to collaborate with them or meet them at one of their next meetings. Maybe you can get in contact with Jack Kallmeyer? @jkallmeyer what do you think about that? -
