    • Hi, @Dominik-Niehaus! I’m gonna tag in @katie-collins-2.

    • Hi @dominik-niehaus, big fossil oysters are a hard group sometimes! The best match I can find in the literature from the Eocene-Oligocene of Eckelsheim is Pycnodonte (Crenostrea) callifera, which is about the right size and shape, although the shell is less vesicular than I would expect from a pycnodontine and I can’t make out any chomata. I would put a ? in front of the ID if you choose to update it to P. (C.) callifera – also if you google-scholar “Pycnodonte callifera” or the older (now not correct) name “Ostrea callifera” you should turn up papers with images that you can compare to the specimen you have in hand, and see if you think it’s a decent match or not.
