Hi Gail, this is an echinoid of some kind (like a sea urchin). @jbauer may be able to identify it further!

Hi, @gail-boris – @sadie-mills is right, it’s an echinoid! You can update your classification to be Kingdom Animalia, Phylum Echinodermata, Class Echinodea. It looks to be an irregular form, you can use the echinoid database to look through images and find a similar fossil: https://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/data/echinoid-directory/taxa/extension.jsp?id=584
Where did you find it? That may help narrow down what species it could be!

Hi, may be this is Echinocardium cordatum (Pennant, 1777) ?
This looks like a “sand dollar”, a flattened sea urchin adapted for burrowing. Because of this, this may be in the order Clypeasteroida.
