@george-phillips thank you so much for participating in ThresherFest, this is going to help our AI a good bit! Do we have any stratigraphic information we can add to make it research grade? If not, that is okay for the AI. If memory serves, the Hawthorn formation is the usual middle Miocene formation in Beaufort?

Hi, @george-phillips, You have a lot of specimens, I’m assuming those with numbers on them are museum specimens. I’m going to stop commenting on each individually unless I find other information when I do my research.

We are working to curate through everything on myFOSSIL and high quality data will be sent to iDigBio so it is more freely…[Read more]

Hi, @george-phillips – is this specimen formally reposited?
    Thanks, Jen

Hi, @george-phillips – is this specimen formally reposited or in your personal collection?
I found a differing taxonomy on the PBDB: https://paleobiodb.org/classic/basicTaxonInfo?taxon_no=142486

    • Hi, Jennifer. I don’t really have a personal collection. I posted this and the others from the MMNS collection–before it occurred to me that this page was primarily for specimens from personal collections. When I realized this, I thought, my posts may be helpful anyway to those in need of assistance with identifications. As for the taxonomy, just…[Read more]

Hi, @george-phillips – similar to your last specimen, is this one formally reposited. We can add in language that indicates this and the specimen number in the Field Notes data spot.

Hi, @george-phillips – Is that a formal specimen number? So the specimens are reposited in a collection? I’ve been including this information in our new Field Notes section to indicate the specimen is not in your personal collection but is formally reposited.

The taxonomy looks like it can be updated a bit. Kingdom Animalia > Phylum Mollusca >…[Read more]

Thanks Eleanor! @george-phillips contributed a really great article! Thanks for suggesting him. He had other great content to add about fossil hunting with kids, but sadly we just couldn’t include it all. @bdunckel and I both think a trip to the Australian Outback sounds amazing and I hope other readers do as well. Please continue to suggest…[Read more]

    • Thank you all for covering us! I appreciate the interest in the program here. Next year (Aug 2018) MMNS Paleontology will be 40 years old, so we’re looking to do something special, probably around Nat’l Fossil Day. Perhaps have a pro-am conference, although I’ll need to discuss it with admin first. I’d be open to ideas, if either of you have any.…[Read more]

Hi, @george-phillips! Glad to see you here. I enjoyed reading your recent paper co-authored with Andy Farke about the ceratopsid tooth from Mississippi! And please say hi to my old friend @derek-anderson for me 🙂
