    Introducing a new species of Ice Age mastodon from Southern California, Mammut pacificus!

    This new species of Pacific mastodon was announced today and described by Western Science Center paleontologist, Dr. Alton Dooley, and colleagues in PeerJ (https://peerj.com/articles/6614.pdf).

    Nicknamed Max, the new Pacific mastodon was found in 1995 during Paleontological mitigation of the Diamond Valley Lake in Hemet, California! #fossil
