4 years, 10 months ago4 years, 10 months ago@sally-guo and @gsantos – I think the taxonomy of this fish may be incorrect. Should the order be Perciformes and family Percidae? A search indicates to me that Cichliformes used to be under Perciformes but now has moved groups, the genus you listed is not on the list of genera in this group. Please advise! I can alter the taxonomy if necessary.…[Read more]

Hi Jennifer,
Have your experts had a chance to look at the tooth sample? Oh, I just added six new photos of another tooth that is not cleaned and hard to identify of course, but it’s strongly agreed that it came from the same animal of the animal in the first four photos you’ve seen. (recovered from the same location) Hope that helps. Have…[Read more]-
Hi, Jerry! No response from the above people but let me try some other folks that I know that may have an idea of what animal the tooth belongs to… @jeanette-pirlo, @smoran, @vperez, @imagallanes, @michael-ziegler Please and thank you! Jen

hi @jerry-hughes i can’t decide if this is a barnacle or tooth. could you provide a picture of the top of the fossil. if it were a tooth then the occlusal end, but if a barnacle, then it would be the opening. Thanks!

Hi Jennifer,
I have deleted all other photos of the “tooth” and uploaded new. Note: These are two teeth which I believe belonged to the same animal in the photos. You can distinguish between the teeth by the color. The darkish teeth are all from the first tooth and the tan colored tooth is the other tooth. (Both teeth are about the size of…[Read more]

@jbauer this is from my personal collection. I got it from when I did the FOSSIL workshop at GSA 2016(?).
That is amazing. Let me pull in our planty expert @mackenzie-smith to confirm the ID! This is super excellent info and will be marked as research grade (given a GUID & sent to iDigBio). Did you want to add any other info to field notes?
