7 years, 5 months ago7 years, 5 months ago@taorminalepore – sorry to respond so late, but as you now know, I was not able to make it to the SVP conference this year! However, I think you, @gsantos, and I ought to (virtually) get together and discuss this matter further.
Additionally, @egardner – do you think this might be a good subject for a new forum?

7 years, 5 months ago7 years, 5 months ago@egardner, @gsantos, @taorminalepore I would be happy to help out with the forum, but I’m not comfortable committing myself to being the main moderator, since A) I am no longer living in SoCal so I’m not quite up to date on current happenings and B) I want to focus on getting the Women In Paleo forum up and running.

7 years, 5 months ago7 years, 5 months ago@michelle-barboza Short but sweet answer: I really dig this idea, and I feel like there’s a real need. Perhaps it’s something we can discuss at SVP during the women in science social?

7 years, 5 months ago7 years, 5 months agoWith one of the biggest paleontology conferences just around the corner (The 2016 Society of Vertebrate Paleontology conference in Utah), here’s a great article to consider: “Women Need to be Seen and Heard at Conferences.”
The article, from Nature, is free to read online. In summary – a neuroscience group created a site called “Bias Watch Nuero”…[Read more]

7 years, 5 months ago7 years, 5 months agoThis is not necessarily an answer to what professional societies can do, but I recently came across an article titled “Calling All Men – Five Ways You Can Be A Feminist At Work.” I thought it was a great article because the fight for empowerment of women in society and the workplace is not a burden that should fall solely upon women. Feminism is…[Read more]

7 years, 5 months ago7 years, 5 months agoIt sounds like an intersection between having a strong mentor, and discussing the disparity of women in STEM fields, is a pretty solid approach!
I’m surprised, too, that figurehead examples of women in STEM / mentors in STEM don’t pack more (statistical) punch. I guess calling attention to the challenges women face in STEM is all the more…[Read more]

Yes, Nina Simon’s Museum 2.0 blog is great for advice, and her book, The Participatory Museum, is also really intriguing for furthering discussions about hands-on learning in museums and getting audiences involved in museum exhibits (including the planning stages!)

7 years, 5 months ago7 years, 5 months agoHi Everyone! I found this fossil in Rattlesnake Creek here in Gainesville, FL after Hurricane Matthew. The way it’s broken makes it a tricky one to identify. Let me know what you think it is! I’ve uploaded photos from a few different angles to help you out. It’s about 2 cm vertical length.
