duplicate of 96728
-
@bill-heim forgive me, what does that mean?
-
That means the same fossils were posted to the emuseum twice once as item 96728 and also 96717. When this happens, I remove one set, the one with the least text added to it. In this case they appear to be modern bones and not fossils. I left them one set temporarily in the emuseum in case someone identifies them.

the first bone seems to be part of the hip or skull. not too sure about the second.
First is a fish skull second looks like part of a femur or humerus
@leonardo-miranda @james-preston thank you guys! Would you know what kind of fish? I thought it’s cool that it’s an actual skull! And it does feel more like femur, it’s larger than not. Thanks again!!
I don’t have a very good amount of reference material for fish. It should be some what easy to search on line for fish skulls near your location. The second bone does look like distal end of a humerus. It is about the same size I would say a seal would be. If you can find it, one of the books I use is Mammalian Osteology by B. Miles Gilbert.
I found a picture on line that looks very close to your fish skull. I looked up ocean fish skull identification.
@james-preston about a month ago I had a positive id of an older seal bone, so it wouldn’t be far off to think this could be too. And I’ll look up both things! Thank you for all the info
Oh it’s the proximal end of the humerus or upper part
@james-preston this is why I’m so grateful for this app! LOL also I’ve been trying to find a related fish skull, closest I see is to a sturgeon. This was found in Sandy Hook NJ
Very cool
That fish skull is only the top part of the skull. The rest is missing. I don’t think it’s a sturgeon. I have a sturgeon skull and they are huge. Of course I live a block from Lake Winnebago and sturgeon spearing just ended last week.
@david-todd thanks!!
@james-preston LOL lucky you! I’ll keep searching and will @ you if I come up with something I am concrete on. Thanks!
If I had a way I just found it and took a picture of it.
There was a pic on line that looked just like it but with no id. I will see if I can find it again.
