1 year, 1 month ago1 year, 1 month ago@holly-romanek nice find! This has what appear to be paleozoic marine fossils, not from your area. Wonder how it found its way to new jersey!

1 year, 5 months ago1 year, 5 months ago@holly-romanek thank you ! From the info you have provided, I think it’s real. I’m glad one of the things I bought is legit at least haha. I also bought wooly mammoth hair but it seems like it’s widely available online so maybe that’s real too . Anyways , thank you again for the info, it’s always much appreciated .

2 years, 11 months ago2 years, 11 months ago@holly-romanek If you collected this in Shawagunk in Ulster County then I think we can definitely preclude petrified wood because the entire area is composed of Middle Ordovician strata.

2 years, 11 months ago2 years, 11 months agoHey @holly-romanek ! I believe your specimen is a chert block. So, not technically a fossil but still composed of compressed diatom skeletons.

3 years ago3 years ago@holly-romanek I concur with @daniel-park . This appears to most likely be a gastropod external mold in a concretion.

The grey webbed fossil you are referring to is one of many different forms of a filter-feeding animal called Bryozoan (AKA “Moss Animals”). If you copy and…[Read more]
