@tom-shern these are trace fossils, filled in burrows from ancient marine invertebrates! It takes seeing these up close and being an expert to known them apart, but this might be Arthrophycus

@matt-griffin this is unfortunately not a lithic artifact, there are not signs of conchoidal fractures or abrasion. But, keep an eye out they may be around!

@christina-massoni it is definitely a fossil bone in a concretion, but important parts of the bone are under rock so it is hard to say (especially given the location having ambiguous stratigraphy). I know there is a lot of eocene marine around those parts, so my first guess for a bone of that size and shape would be cetacean or early pinniped but…[Read more]
