Activity

Archaeocyathids (“ancient cups”) are considered an early order of poriferans. Once known as “Nidulites pyriformis”, they formed massive bioherms in early Cambrian carbonate shelves. By the mid-Cambrian they were largely extinct, outcompeted by other sponge forms.
