And if they are ancient tree branch pieces I’d say they are about 230 million years old maybe more or less. The thickness ranges from 1/4″ – 6mm.

It is a section though a trilobite, probably Gravicalymene or Calymene. Similar to specimens of Gravicalymene celebra, found in the Silurian Laurel Dolomite of Kentucky, or the Silurian in Grafton, Illinois, and other Silurian Dolomites.

The first picture shows some fracturing characteristc of chert or chalcedony (silicic rocks) however, I’m having a hard time viewing the second picture. Thanks. Typically you won’t have that sort of texture on a scute. I think it’s chert embedded in another rock.
