3 years, 1 month ago3 years, 1 month agoI took it to a store that sells fossils where a few people told me it is definitely a fossil. The consistency is nothing like a rock. We also compared it to fossilized puffer fish platelets, popular in the area, and it looks almost identical- minus the worn down edges

3 years, 1 month ago3 years, 1 month agoI think this seems like plant material- you can see the spine of something along the inside edge, seemingly like some sort of plant that’s been wilted. Very cool find.

Greetings @jennifer-smith ! You do appear to have a fossil bone specimen. Of what exactly is difficult to determine. My guess from similar posts is likely sea cow or cetacean. @bill-heim could help an ID.
@bill-heim help!! And @matthew-gramling thank you!! What is a source I can use to figure out how old the fossils I find are? The area that I go to it’s hard to find info about online!
Rockd is a great app for that.
@matthew-gramling downloaded!! Thank you 🙂
Casey Key strata dates any where from late Pliocene to Holocene. So, 3.5 million years to several thousand.
Most welcome! Happy collecting!
Not enough remains to tell what it came from.
