No, this forum is referring to the Martin-Marietta owned Belgrade Mine in Jones Count, North Carolina.

You can read more about the mine here: https://www.myfossil.org/featured-fossil-rare-extinct-land-mammal-from-belgrade-north-carolina/

And, last but not least, here is a local news article that got published just before we officially “opened” the Pop-Up Paleo mobile museum in Salina on July 12: https://www.ksal.com/rock-chalk-fossils/?fbclid=IwAR2eRH7KDUO7XLGkJEeTbeb5H3H_laZP3vMKLaMMqrpWK2KMdHIeIowTIDA

The KU Natural History Museum took our Pop-Up Paleo mobile museum across western Kansas last week, making stops in the towns of Salina, Great Bend, and Garden City.  Our goal was to engage underserved audiences outside of our eastern KS base.  Despite the intense heat (one of the student employees nearly passed out from heat exhaustion in S…[Read more]

I personally thought that NAPC 2019 was a fantastic conference. I was so busy having fun and learning new things that I almost forgot that my 8-year wedding anniversary fell right in the middle of the conference on June 25th – haha!  The conference accommodations weren’t swanky, but it was kind of fun to stay in a college dorm once again… and…[Read more]

While attending the North American Paleontological Convention (June 22-27, 2019) in Riverside, CA, I snuck off for a day at the La Brea Tar Pits & Museum. It was awesome to take my time going through the museum and exploring all over the site itself (instead of being rushed through on a quick tour). I was able to ask a bunch of geeky taphonomy…[Read more]

What was your favorite talk at NAPC 2019? I think mine was Dr. Karen Chin’s on mutualistic relationships as evidenced through coprolite (and other excretory) deposits 🙂

Sounds super fascinating! Though I’m glad I don’t need to develop a relationship with bugs to keep parasites away 🙂

@egardner I must admit to being disappointed when they were calling for group photos from various colleges such as this one from UGA. My school wasn’t called! I suppose that it is possible that I was the only one there to have graduated from General Motors Institute (now Kettering Institute).

Haha! True, @jkallmeyer. I imagine that very few graduates of General Motors / Kettering Institute have achieved the same level of Cincinnati Arch fossil expert knowledge that you have!
