2 years, 3 months ago2 years, 3 months agoThat would be pretty cool if it were a saber tooth cat, but the short face bear tooth seems more similar in size and shape. It’s a 3 inch tooth and I’d love for it to be any one of those two…but I wish I could get a definite ID on this cause I’m real curious to know. The images I’ve seen online and from what I’ve read the short face bear was…[Read more]

2 years, 3 months ago2 years, 3 months agoDoes anyone know what kind of bear this might have come from? It compares in size and appearance to a giant short face bear tooth that was found in SC this year by a diver that I saw online.

That certainly looks like a tooth, with the root and shiny enamel on the crown. Its also very large, which is exciting. This is an incredible find that I would show to the Houston Museum of Natural Science for their opinion.

@james-preston might be able to help

Looks like tibias
-
Probably big herbivore like cow or bison.
-
Age is a very hard thing to tell just by the look of the bone.
-
Not horse there is no fibula attached.

2 years, 11 months ago2 years, 11 months agoHave a few teeth and teeth fragments that I’ve found on the Colorado River bank here in Southeast Texas. Would like to know if they’re all bison and horse or maybe something different and how old they might be? Found them all late last year. I think the last group are more modern on account of the color…[Read more]

2 years, 11 months ago2 years, 11 months agoI found this on a bank of the Colorado River in Southeast Texas. I have no idea what it might be or belongs to. It measures about 8 inches in length. Can anyone tell me what it is and what it belonged to? I believe this area is the Beaumont formation. T…[Read more]

It looks modern, my guess is it’s a leg bone from a cow or some kind of livestock
-
not sure if it’s very modern, looks like quite an old bone if not prehistoric. could easily have some thousands ir more years on it.
-
@leonardo-miranda “modern” is a relative term. Something can be thousands of years old and not be fossils. The minimum age to be considered a fossil is 10,000 years
-
@a-trilobite l know. in my description, I’m setting the “modern” border line at around 2000 years or so. which this bone certainly seems like it might be older than. I’d say it could easily be Pleistocene or slightly older.
-
@leonardo-miranda I wouldn’t doubt if it’s middle or late Pleistocene but I wouldn’t go much further than that.
