Yes this is a fossil
-
Nice sponge or coral!
-
Thanks!!!
-
Modern coral
-
This is not modern
-
Thanks!
-
How it’s it fossil it’s modern 🤨
-
I’m more inclined towards it being modern than fossil.
-
I was thinking modern, but was hoping old fashioned. 😎
-
It’s modern because it’s white. If it’s a fossil, it will usually have a darker grey color
-
Thanks!!!

it’s is a scutes (I’m pretty sure) and if so it’s probably from a crocodile🐊
-
Wavy is soft shell turtle. Croc is big well defined circles, turtle is either less defined and shallower circles, or deeper wavy texture like this.
-
Thanks!
-
Another diagnostic which is barely visible in the croc scute you posted earlier is looking from the side. Croc will have a v shape or a bit of a ridge to it, turtle will be pretty uniformly flat though the texture will often go gradually from closed to open.
-
Turtle
-
@corinne-daycross I see where your coming from but I don’t know any turtle with these kinda scutes do you know species?
-
@smudge-smith softshell is as much as I would say with confidence. I’ve handled a lot of them but nobody in the lab was studying turtles so never bothered to id past that.
-
OK 👌

None of us know

Hahahaha!!!!

I concur with @benjamin-devries lol. But, I would say this looks more osteopathic than dental. So, be sure to purchase the right coverage when insuring this fossil XD
-
@bill-heim might be able to aid with an ID. Hopefully is not a very convincing pseudofossil made of old asphalt lol.
-
I think it is a piece of bone which will often turn black in water

Rock with tube made by a modern boring pholad clam.
It’s not boring 😡🤬
@aiden-gore Um, sorry if I misunderstood you and you were making a joke, but I think here he meant “boring” as in “drilling into things”.
Oh ok sorry 😞
