I got this “coral” fossil! But I was shocked when I realized it looked like a tooth. Is this a coral covered tooth, Or a piece of coral?! WHAT IS IT!

Thank your answer! I agree that there are proofs pointing in both directions to saying they are, or simply dinosaur -morphs. Thanks again!

Hi everyone! I would like to take a poll in the comments, to see if you agree or disagree, with the consensus that birds are dinosaurs. Please, feel free to show evidence to why you disagree, and agree. This information will be used for a study. Thank you.

    • I had dinosaur biology as a class in undergrad and had one of the last hold out professors that believed raptors should be birds and their own lineage within the archosaurs but separate from what we now call the non-avian dinosaurs. The main two arguments were that the digit rank in the hands of birds and dinosaurs did not match up and that a…[Read more]

Well they still are dinosaurs, they are closely related to species such as velociraptor, Utah raptor. They even are placed within the family tree of Dinosauria. The present scientific consensus is that birds are a group of theropod dinosaurs that originated during the Mesozoic Era. Also, birds are reptiles. The “birds are not theropods” mov…[Read more]

Is it a dinosaur? no. A bird? No. It’s flying reptile. Also, if pterosaurs had Proto-feathers, or feather like structures, where do these structures actually begin to appear in the fossil record?

This picture depicts different hip of avian theropods (birds). Some are more similar in structure to non -avian dinosaur. The next picture will depict the skeleton of these living dinosaurs (theropods)

These are hips of known birds, some have a more similar structure to non- avian theropods. But in general, the structure remains very unchanged.

Hi everyone! This fossil fish was recovered from Brazil. What type\species could it be?

    • Looks like the typical Dastilbe crandalli that is very common from there. From the Ceára region, early Cretaceous. Nice one too

    • Hey there! This is an extinct group of corals called the tabulates (Tabulata). I don’t know my genera of this group that well since neither state I’ve lived in had these but Favosites is a common genus. Hopefully someone else can give you a more specific ID.

    • Awesome!
