I was assuming the entire fossil to be a pygidium, but now I take your point that it comprises the whole thorax plus the pygidium. Hi Jeanette. The 3D scans are amazing! You have done a terrific job with them. It is very exciting to see the technology in action. I was able to view most of them on my IPad, the rhino wouldn’t load properly so I will try it on my home computer to see if I can get it to work. Super cool!
Thank you!-

7 years ago7 years agoHi Julie @julie-niederkorn –Did you get my message from a few days ago about the tooth that you found from Belgrade in 2015?
-
@bmacfadden – I had to add Julie’s “handle” to your two status updates in order for Julie to see them. It’s always best to type the ‘@’ symbol and then the intended person’s name so that the system knows to send a notification.
-
Thought I was doing this correctly via a direct message. Still need to fully understand the system, I guess.

The picture below shows the bones scaled down to 14.4%, which is the size our printer (Makerbot Desktop) can handle. Eventually, I will print a life size model and for that I will use open source…[Read more]

7 years, 5 months ago7 years, 5 months ago@julie-niederkorn, teeth can be a little more challenging than bone. Teeth do become denser as they incorporate more sediment, but the density difference between a modern and fossil tooth isn’t as a great as it is between modern and fossil bone. The tap test doesn’t work because enamel will make that ceramic sound regardless of it being modern or…[Read more]
