2 days, 9 hours ago2 days, 9 hours agoI’m going to leave them as is. I don’t have experience removing anything from the ground that isn’t just laying around. There is a new neighborhood on the way and I am afraid things like this will be lost. Can or should I notify anyone?

Though very worn it looks like you may have a rib. There looks to be other pieces of bone surrounding your find. Awesome.

Really? I never would have imagined. There are some other, I guess rib bones, near this one. Could it be relatively recent or is there no way of knowing by a photo?

I believe those are proper fossils. If you touch these fossils they will probably feel cold. Even though they are stone, you are able to see the texture of the bone. It would be difficult to collect the fossil in “one” piece. Maybe a jacket of plaster of Paris could keep it together. I would like to advise leaving it in situ is you are not well…[Read more]

1 year, 7 months ago1 year, 7 months agoOh, and I have ammonite pieces in at least three or so storage bins, just not a complete one. I have my big half piece that covers my arm from my elbow to about the tips of my fingers. lol!!

I have a few that look similar but found in different places. Some are just on the side of the country road that leads to the back side (where I live) of the neighborhood. This is in Georgetown, TX.

This is a lovely piece of limestone, unfortunately I don’t see any fossils in it. Ammonites are not an uncommon fossil in your area, keep an eye out for spiral-shaped shells.

This looks like a badly broken bone. There are a lot of pieces of bone visible.
