Alligator scute
for my education what’s a scute?
@Adam-Frey, scutes are the hardened, thickened bumpy armor pieces on the backs of animals like gators, turtles, and armadillos.
Hi, @Kelsi-Hamblin, do you think you could update the taxonomy to reflect that it is an alligator scute?
Would like to see the other side. From what I see so far, it looks like turtle shell, could be alligator but from the side I see there is no indication of that. Alligator (and crocodile) scutes have large pits on the dorsal side which is distinctive. See: Specimen 60952 The difference with a crocodile scute is that a crocodile scute doesn’t have the large dorsal ridge.
