Trees fossilize as petrified wood and casts, but I don’t think this is either. If it’s a fossil I lean more toward burrows, but I’m not sure. The type and age of the rock would help a lot for id

I figured it was limestone. That means it’s not a tree. Sticking to my burrow guess, but I don’t have much experience with limestone fossils.https://www.mtsu.edu/glade-center/gladehistory.php has a nice general history and description of what I’m guessing you are looking at.

Could be burrows replaced with calcite (probably) or just some good ol’veins

That is a really cool picture, it really does look like canyons with a swift river running through and vegetation around. I’m not seeing a fossil though.

the fossil you found is likely a type of segmented plant stem, such as those found in horsetails (genus Equisetum) or clubmosses (class Lycopodiopsida).
The stacked segments and tapering shape are characteristic of these types of plants. The fact that the segments are delineated by lines also supports this identification, as many species of…[Read more]
Looks like the fossil of a worm to me man. It’s cool what ever it is!
How did you find it? I am going on an expedition in Nashville today”
