2 years, 11 months ago2 years, 11 months agoIts quite interesting to see how different peoples opinions are. It was found in an area where ice age mammoth bones have been found so it has been suggested on a different site that it could be quite old.

Appears to be modern, not a fossil

I would be so excited to find something like this ! Sometimes I do a Google lens search on my photos when I don’t know what something is – it’s a 50/50 chance of being helpful or pointing me in the direction of what I’ve found or looking at.
-
What makes this modern, just wondering ? Is it because it’s attached mainly as a whole ? Could any of you be more specific – like “modern” – our current time period ? “Bone of what type of fish / species ?” Also, users are from all over the world – where is lake Winnebago and why would you be finding modern fish bone like this all the time?
-
Just trying to learn more and understand my finds as well- and so got “ a rock” reply to one of my posts and I just wanted to faceplant lol ! We are all here to learn 🌎

Hi there @liz-allan do you have any more specific location information and a photo that more clearly depicts the specimen? That might help with IDing it!
