2 years, 8 months ago2 years, 8 months agoI think that’s limestone. It’s made of calcium carbonate which dissolves in the presence of even weak acids like vinegar. Limestone rock formations can be crazy looking for this reason. I’m not an expert tho just a guess

2 years, 8 months ago2 years, 8 months ago@a-trilobite I did make sure it wasn’t just a surface stain. I broke the rock through the spot and it persists into the rock. It could just be a pocket of a different mineral I guess

That looks like an erosion mark or possibly the residue of a recent lichen on the rock, either way it’s not a fossil
-
Very good ☺️😊😊

That sounds right. If it was a fossil it would only likely only be on the surface too. Only three dimensionally preserved fossils persist through the surface.

2 years, 9 months ago2 years, 9 months agoPyrite is magnetic, try putting a magnet to it. If it doesn’t stick, it’s probably a mica. Micas form thin flakes, if that’s what it looks like then mica for sure. Could be gold though, if still not sure u can take a piece of unglazed ceramic and rub the shiny part on it, if it streaks gold then it is gold

the bottom left picture looks an awful lot like crinoid stems, though I can’t say for sure.. another option may be worm burrows (a lot of them?)?
@loren-javernick A lot of ages are represented there. I do not see any jointing which we would see in crinoid stems. If there are puck marks and branching they are bryozoans. If not, burrows like mentioned before.
