3 years, 6 months ago3 years, 6 months agoHi there @jessica-alexander this does have an ammonite type shape! It is rather worn, but Jurassic-age ammonites can be found in Texas! Sites like macrostrat.org are good resources for looking into this!

3 years, 6 months ago3 years, 6 months agoVery cool brachiopod fossil @victoria-fowler. If you know the location, you can use something like macrostrat.org to determine its lithostratigraphy (the geologic formations this was in) and its age!

3 years, 6 months ago3 years, 6 months agoHi there @christine-kempter the picture is a little blurry! A clearer picture will help with ID! Can I ask were this was found? The location helps with ID, as well. It looks like it may be horn coral.

3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agoHi there @melissa-garrett this picture is a bit blurry, so it is hard to be certain, but this is not a turtle fossil. It is most likely an interestingly shaped rock!

3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months ago@a-trilobite For ID purposes, the more detailed the location, the better! Do you have a city, perhaps? And you can go into the fossil itself to edit and add this information!

3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agoHi there @stijn-fruyt cool finds! For ID purposes, specimen need to be uploaded individually with a scale for reference. If you could do that these can be IDed by our shark experts @vperez and @bill-heim!

3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agoThis does look like bone @stijn-fruyt but it appears to be too eroded for further ID.

3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agoHi there @a-trilobite could you update the location information for this specimen to aid in ID? Using the Mancos app or macrostrat.org you can also use your location information to determine the lithostratigraphy and geochronology!

3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agoYes, @noah-haumann, the main yellow part is rock, and then all of the differently colored portions are minerals that have mineralized/crystallized into the rock! Hope this description is helpful!

3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months ago@noah-haumann like @bill-heim said, this does appear to be a rock with mineral inclusions! A fun specimen, but not a fossil!

3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agoHi there @noah-haumann this is indeed a rock with erosion lines! Sometimes interestingly shaped rocks can appear to look like fossils! One trick is to look for the mineralization that occurs with fossilization! Or, if it is a trace fossil (an imprint of a fossil), usually the fossil isn’t “carved” into the rock like these erosion lines, but rather…[Read more]

3 years, 7 months ago3 years, 7 months agoHi @benjamin-devries for appropriate and accurate ID, it is best if each individual specimen is uploaded on its own with a scale for reference! Once you do that, we can help you ID these to the best of our abilities! @smoran may be able to help!
