Hi, @mackenzie-white, how did you get to this identificaiton? I think we can add in Class Amphibia – here is a link I found for the genus: https://www.idigbio.org/portal/records/50ec3b8a-6c8a-4cb3-a586-4a738508735a
Again, could you clarify the lithostratigraphy?
Talk to you soon,
Jen-
Hi Jen,
Thank you so much for the clarification! Not so sure of the lithostratigraphy, I am pretty new to all of this! If you could help me research, that would be amazing! 🙂

Hi, @mackenzie-white – here is a link to the Chinle: https://macrostrat.org/sift/#/strat_name_concept/4997
And the Blue Mesa (which doesn’t seem to be part of the Chinle and is the wrong age?) : https://macrostrat.org/sift/#/strat_name_concept/7203You can use Macrostrat’s geologic map to find your collection locality and it will give you the…[Read more]

Hi – @mackenzie-white – This is a productid brachiopod, not a mollusc.
Do you have another image or two with a scale bar? It would be good to see multiple views of the specimen to best help you with identification.Class Strophomenata > Order Productida is what you are looking for here.
Given the location you suggest, this is likely from the…[Read more]

This might be Peniculauris bassi which is a very common brachiopod in the Permian Kaibab Formation. See plate 45 figures 1 and 2 in The Environment and History of Toroweap and Kaibab Formations of Northern Arizona and Southern Utah Volume 492 of Carnegie institution of Washington.…[Read more]

Hi, @mackenzie-white, What helped you identify this as a Phytosaurus? Do you have any other images possibly with a scale bar?
We can update your classification to Order Thecodontia > Family Phytosauridae.
I wasn’t able to find information on the Blue Mesa Member, do you have a reference I could look at?
Here is what I found on the Chinle:…[Read more]-
Group and formation are Chinle. When I was on site, the principal field investigator identified it as Phytosaur. The classification can be updated. Thank you!

Hm so maybe just Blue Mesa is incorrect then? Macrostrat suggests its from the Cenozoic which wouldn’t match the rest of the information!
