3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoHi @Mariela-Pajuelo, this appears to be a cephalopod shell, but some more photos would definitely be useful.

3 years, 10 months ago3 years, 10 months agoHi there, @mariela-pajuelo, cool find! From these pictures, this looks like it might be a rock, but @samantha-ocon might be able to help you narrow down the identification!

4 years ago4 years agoHey @mariela-pajuelo and @samantha-ocon, this is dolphin tooth. Great find! I’m no expert on cetaceans, but it looks like it could be from the genus Pomatodelphis. Maybe do some research on that delphinid and see how well it compares.

4 years ago4 years agoThese are great photos! Thank you so much, @Mariela-Pajuelo! Could you update the classification to reflect @Jeanette-Pirlo‘s ID? It would be Kingdom -> Animalia, Phylum -> Chordata, Class -> Sirenia.

4 years ago4 years ago@Mariela-Pajuelo, sorry for the late response! I think this is an alligator tooth. @jeanette-pirlo would be able to confirm.
-
I’m not convinced that it’s gator based on the root but @smoran may have more insight.
-
I see what you mean, @Jeanette-Pirlo! Vertebrates are hard lol

4 years ago4 years agoThis looks like a sirenian tooth (manatee or dugong). When things go back to normal, you should definitely bring it by the collections for Richard to fully ID @mariela-pajuelo Great find!

4 years ago4 years agoHi, @mariela-pajuelo. Do you have any clearer photos? I can’t seem to make this out at all. You can add photos to a single specimen by navigating to the specimen page on a desktop: https://www.myfossil.org/dwc-specimen/67012 and clicking “View Media” under the single photo. I would add the other photo you uploaded to this specimen and delete the…[Read more]

I agree. It looks just like one I found years ago in a phosphate mine in Brewster, FL.

@smoran excellent, we thought it could be a mammal. We have another that we will post photos of that could be the same with a more entire root. Thanks!
