Oh, and my answer on identifying which specimens to work… I need to start taking pics of what I collect as soon as I get them back to the shop and before I wash them. All of them look like simple rocks until that first pressure washing then you start seeing some details that get you excited. I set those aside from the others and soak them in…[Read more]

Trial and error, my friend. There are an abundance of tools to help you but it’s choosing the right one for a given task. I’ve messed up a couple specimens by “using a sledgehammer to kill a fly”. Now, I start by using the least aggressive approach FIRST, then moving up the tiers to engravers and Dremels. This one worked perfectly by just being p…[Read more]

I only started hounding and prepping 4 months ago. I’m learning as I go. This was the very first cut I made on a specimen I suspected to be AGATIZED coral. I became hooked ever since! I didn’t realize how difficult it would be to obtain a mirror polish! Getting better at this. #fossil

An awesome sea biscuit fossil – extremely detailed and preserved. It took close to two hours picking away the matrix filling the fossil. Very happy with the result! #fossil

There are two massive boulders made up of this rock in Pensacola, Florida. They are located near the Black Water River. I believe they’re sand stone.

Put it in white vinegar for about 3 hours and see if it etches down to where you can get a better look.
