This ichnofossil contains what a Dry Dredgers pamphlet identifies as a scolecodont – a microfossil that is part of a marine oligochaete’s chewing apparatus. The size (shown in the secondary image) is just shy of 2mm.

I have provided an enlargement of the siphuncle. If you can provide a better ID by getting a good look at this structure, I’d appreciate the info!

I only know of one species of Orthonybyoceras – O. dyeri. In the same family is Treptoceras duseri. I’m not entirely sure how to best distinguish between them and I think they both can be found in the Grant Lake Fm. Any advice from other Ordovician folks? @jkallmeyer @kyle-hartshorn @bheimbrock

  My apologies for not replying sooner. No reply for me means “I don’t know”. At times, these two were thought to be synonymous. I think that Treptoceras is more common and has a wider range. I’ll have to look dig into some siphuncle photos and see if I can tell the difference. Thanks for asking! @jbauer @matthew-croxton
