5 years ago5 years agoI agree with @max-dereme. Looks like rugose (horn) coral. MAPS (the Mid-America Paleontology Society) is a good group of people to talk to for Iowa fossils. They are based in Iowa City.

5 years, 1 month ago5 years, 1 month ago@max-dereme No problem! Also, I meant to say three skulls a year (not three total). A lot of the material was discovered by Ralph Emlong in the 1980’s and is housed at UCMP and the Smithsonian.

5 years, 1 month ago5 years, 1 month ago@max-dereme Although not incredibly common there are probably at least 3 dolphin skulls that come from the OR Coast. They are relatively common for vert material. UO knows is aware.

5 years, 1 month ago5 years, 1 month ago@max-dereme the shell was left on my desk along with some other shells that may have come from a quarry in Florida, but we aren’t 100% sure! They were left with me because they didn’t have locality data, but could be used for education. Thanks for your help!
